Facebook names Erin Egan, JD ‘94, Director of Privacy

Facebook announced on Tuesday that it has named Erin Egan, JD ’94, as its director of privacy. She will join Facebook in mid-October and be based here in Washington.

Erin is currently a partner and co-chair of Covington& Burling’s Global Privacy and Data Security practice group, and has been recognized by both Chambers USA and Legal 500 US as a leading Privacy and Data Security lawyer. Legal 500 US writes that Ms. Egan, “‘stands out for combining deep substantive knowledge, a practical understanding of clients’ real world needs, and wise and mature judgment’. ‘One of the most able lawyers in the market.’”  Ms. Egan was recently named as one of The American Lawyer’s “45 Under 45.”  She was also honored by The National Law Journal’s “40 under 40″ and recognized for “laying the groundwork for a cutting-edge practice.”

Erin’s career is just one more example of our alumni making a difference in the real world by putting their legal training into action.  Like our own Professor Dan Solove, Erin is at the forefront of the privacy and social media fields, and we are proud of her and the leadership role she will undoubtedly play at Facebook.
